Faerie Penguins
Bicheno is home to many including Faerie Penguins who have a Rookery near Diamond Island. Photography is difficult as these birds come ashore at night and flash photography is out as the birds have no eyelids which means a camera flash can leave them blinded for life. Guides carry torches with specific frequencies of light to leave the penguins unaffected.

Is that their real name? If so, I’m impressed because most people don’t know this is the correct spelling of faeries.

Hi Kuanyin, yes that is their real name. Depending where you are they are either referred to as faerie penguins, fairy penguins or little penguins.
As for spelling, it helps having a spell check plugin for my browser
